On the morning of April 12, the 2019 China (International) Water Affairs Development Forum grandly opened at Chongqing Huashang International Convention Center. Pan Delu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and researcher at the Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources; Yu Kongjian, Dean of the Graduate School of Landscape Architecture of Peking University and academician of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; and Chang Jiwen, Deputy Director of the Institute of Resources and Environment Policies of the Development Research Center of the State Council, attended the forum and delivered special reports. Cheng Wei, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, addressed the opening ceremony. Lu Feng, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of Chongqing Water Resources Bureau, and Ido Eliazar, Commercial Consul of the Consulate General of Israel in Chengdu, also attended and delivered speeches. The forum was hosted by Liao Daiyu, Deputy Inspector of Chongqing Water Resources Bureau and Secretary-General of Chongqing Hydraulic Engineering Society.

The 6th China Water Affairs Development Forum Opens in Chongqing
Supported by Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, Chongqing Water Resources Bureau and other organizations, and hosted by Chongqing Hydraulic Engineering Society and relevant entities, the forum was themed "Innovation, Coordination, Green Development, Opening-up and Sharing". It conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on key topics including water affairs strategies in the new era, water ecological civilization construction, Yangtze River protection and restoration, and the framework and implementation of the river chief system, contributing wisdom to the building of the life community of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands and lakes as well as the construction of a Beautiful China with professional expertise.

Cheng Wei Addresses the Opening Ceremony
In his speech, Cheng Wei pointed out that the forum is not only a grand event of water conservancy science and technology, but also provides intellectual support for water security guarantee in Chongqing's economic and social sustainable development and ecological civilization construction. Hosting the forum in Chongqing is an affirmation and encouragement for the city’s water conservancy work, as well as a trust and support for relevant academic societies and scientific researchers in Chongqing. He urged experts and scholars to speak their minds freely and share their insights generously, offering valuable ideas for Chongqing’s ecological civilization construction, especially for advancing water-related initiatives. He hoped that Chongqing Hydraulic Engineering Society would take the initiative to coordinate, act proactively, provide enthusiastic services and ensure sound logistics, so as to guarantee the forum’s smooth progress and fruitful outcomes.
It is learned that the forum will run until April 14. In addition to the main forum, it includes four parallel sub-forums focusing on ecological civilization construction and water environment governance, sponge city construction and black-odor water body treatment, smart water affairs and water conservancy informatization construction, and water system planning and landscape design. More than 50 guest experts will deliver academic reports, and over 400 experts and scholars from relevant fields will participate in the forum.
